The rumour started early on Friday that Diamond Head was packed.  It turned out to be true.  Two families squeezed in caravans, the tent families used the walk-in area.  At the end of the day we were all there but in a number of locations.

By nightfall on Friday we had parked ourselves around someone else's fire, sipping wine, swilling beer and chatting happily.

Saturday dawned hot and sunny with the wind starting up early.  Beach conditions were not the ideal Diamond Head conditions we were looking for, but still not too bad.

Families were too-ing and fro-ing to birthday parties and shops throughout the day, and action was underway to bring the nipper trailer on site.  Eventually after a bqq dinner, we found ourselves again, sitting around someone else's fire sipping wine and swilling beer.

The kids were kept happy with bbq'ed marshmallows, sparklers and glow sticks.  Some of us were just a little sunburnt, kids were worn out from beach activities so bed was a welcome location not too long after dark.

Sunday dawned hot, but no wind!  You beauty! 14 Nippers arrived for a fantastic training session.  The waves were moderately big and a rip was operating proving perfect training conditions for the bigger kids who's paddling & surf swimming skills are noticeably improving.

A standout would have to be Braedon who, only 3 days earlier reluctantly caught one wave at Thursday's paddling session at North Haven Beach.  Sunday saw Braedon reluctant to leave the water, and his confidence on the board is sky high.

The Nipper food sponsors - Top End Fruit & Vege, Laurieton Bakery & Wiggly Tail - kindly provided our food supplies again and we all enjoyed sitting around afterwards enjoying a healthy BBQ.

Lots of people to thank:
  • Sponsors as above,
  • Peter & Gary from the SES who brought the trailer and gazebo out,
  • Annette who helped co-ordinate the food,
  • Derek who facilitated cooking the bbq,
  • Belinda who collected the food & brought it out Sunday morning,
  • Glen, Adam & Glen who coordinated the swim and board activities
  • Ian who came out from town, provided welcome qualified support and ran the littlies into the ground
  • and the Mums who packed and organised their families to enable everyone to come along.

Standby for the next Camping Weekend dates.
