Carnival committee needs to be established. Suggestions of similar committee positions to the last carnival. Carnival is a two day commitment and support will be heavily provided by MNC branch. Suggestions of ways to improve on last years carnival or other ideas are welcomed.
Thank you to JAC’s Matt Hinton and Jenny Cooper. We have new members that have joined since last month and it is great to see the club growing. Please support Matt and Jenny in this program. Thanks to all Age Managers who are doing a great job and those that provide water safety.
Sun Safe partnership. Imogen (Cancer Council) has taken over from last year. She will be supporting training and sun safe discussions for Nippers and Members. Contact Suzanne White if you'd like to get involved.

A massive thanks to Tony Worton, Phil Traves, Michelle Garvan, Griffin Ferguson, Alicia Cooper and Mali Gilbert for their invaluable help as volunteers at the recent Iron Kids. Apologies if I’ve missed anybody. Big congratulations to all Camden Haven Nippers/SRC who competed and made the club proud.
Thank you to Jenny, Matt and Michelle who have given up their time to hold several proficiency dates to ensure that all our Nippers are assessed and covered as per SLSA guidelines.
3 more ticketed IRB drivers after Sundays proficiency (Tony Worton, Adam Toogood & James Langley); Suz White proficient as a crew person. Looking in a much better position than we did this time last year, well done to everyone.
Bronze/SRC course progressing well.
Bar Manager Update - Anthony Cook 0416 244 975
I am happy to report that we recently had a successful function at our new bar on Grand Final night. Around 20 people from the caravan park next door ventured up to the surf club to watch the Grand Final and they enjoyed quite a few cold beverages on the night. Needless to say it was a very good revenue raiser for the club.
Functions such as this will raise a significant amount of money for the club over the upcoming holiday season, but we desperately need people to volunteer some time so that we can actually open the bar. I would ask that any member with their RSA should contact me with any availability they may have to serve drinks behind the bar. Working behind the bar is actually a bit of fun and it only has to be for a few hours at a time.
The hard work is done. Please let me know if anyone is able to help keep the bar open.
Beach to Beach Fundraising – Trivia Night to be held to contribute to fundraising activities.
Junior Life Saver of the Year Awards – nominations are open. If you are in the U14 age group contact Rowena.
But wait! There's more:
What else is there to say...? Oh! Patrol 3 - see you at the beach on Sunday.
Open Day was a huge success. Congratulations and thank you to Michelle, Rowena and all others involved. Great to see some past members attend the official opening of our life members bar. Well done and thank you to Anthony Cook for his efforts.
Stella Moore (SRC 2014) was successful in gaining a position in the Talented Athletes Program run by SLSNSW and attended the Sydney Academy of Sport. Stella was one of two young lifesavers to represent the Mid North Coast. We are fortunate as a non-competitive club to have been afforded the opportunity to bring back knowledge and skills to our other youth members. Congratulations to Stella on securing a place in such a highly sought after program. If you are interested in pursuing similar opportunities talk to your Patrol Captain or Age Manager.
Several members were involved in the search for missing boy William Tyrell at Kendall for many days. It is a credit to our club and the members involved for their efforts.
Two day Branch Carnival will go ahead being held here at CHSLSC in February 2015. Preparations will commence earlier than last year to ensure that every facet is planned well & we have plenty of support for the carnival.
Shelley Watts has indicated an interest in conducting training sessions with any interested members in order to improve fitness, possibly on a Saturday or Sunday on the beach. Contact Suzanne White if you're interested.
The club needs members qualified in Basic Beach Management and Advanced Rescus Training Cert. Contact Michelle Garvan to register your interest.
Camden Haven Triathlon – 22 & 23 November (Volunteers needed)
During the 2014/2015 Nipper season an important study will be undertaken in your club and other Surf Life Saving Clubs across the Mid North Coast. The overall aim of the study is to identify the barriers and facilitators to aquatic activity from the Nippers perspective and also from the perspective of their Age Managers, parents/carers and surf club Junior Activity Coordinators.
In 2012-13 there were 48 coastal drowning deaths in NSW, 50% of these occurred at a beach and 22.9% of these coastal drowning deaths resulted from individuals participating in swimming or wading.
Water safety and rescue skills are key components of the Surf Education program offered at your club for nippers and are one strategy that contributes to children’s development of drowning prevention skills. All children need to acquire these essential skills.
During November, Age Managers of under 8 to under 13 years age groups will be distributing information about the Nipper research and asking you to sign a form giving your approval for your child to complete a Surf Swimming questionnaire. The questionnaire will take about ten minutes to complete and is anonymous. Only your child’s age group and gender will be recorded. The research findings will be made available to all participating clubs in the Mid North Coast Branch and will contribute to the improvement of open water safety, aquatic competence and drowning prevention.
For further information contact Amanda Higgerson (email@example.com) or a Club Committee member.
Nippers will be held this Sunday the 26th of October 2014 at 10am. Normal time, normal venue.
Proficiency will be held for Bronze holders and arrangements have been made for Nippers to continue until the proficiency is done, then we will be hitting the waves for water activities.
Perfect weather conditions are forecast with small swell and light winds, and a barmy 27C.
Nippers will continue fortnightly after this.
See you there,
