Without doubt the best fun you can have in a surf club - "Nippers"!
From age 5 to 14 you will be having a heap of fun whilst you are being trained in surf life saving. A qualified surf life saver will work with you make sure you learn lots and have even more fun.
The highlight of our Juniors program is the fun training and camping weekend held at Diamond Head culminating in a full Juniors session at Diamond Head on the Sunday.
Our open day is on the 16th October 2016. Come along and you can watch demonstrations and participate in the some Nippers activities.
To develop an awareness and understanding of surf safety, build surf skills for both enjoyment and competition, within a safe and caring environment.
Camden Haven SLSC is delighted to support our Junior Activities (Nipper) Program for children aged 5 to 14.
You are invited to read these pages, which we hope will answer questions that you may have about Juniors and our Club. We hope all children and their family enjoy the experience.
The Juniors Program
There are over 60,000 junior surf lifesavers (nippers) in Australia. Juniors start learning about surf awareness and safety through the SLSC education program. Juniors are also able to participate in surf swimming, flags, board paddling, wades and other fund activities and games.
One of the best features of Juniors, is seeing children overcome their fear of the surf. Children who are afraid of the water can develop through encouragement, education and training to be confident in the surf.
Camden Haven Juniors
Our Juniors program is growing from strength to strength. The total number of registered Juniors was 68 for the 2013/2014. Our junior numbers continue to increase which is great for our kids and fantastic for the future of surf life saving in our community.
The Juniors beach-based skills session is held fortnightly, Sunday morning from 10am. A Junior board skills session is held at the North Haven Baths at 4pm Friday afternoon fortnightly - pls check the calendar. If you have not been formally notified that board training has been cancelled and we are not at the baths, please check at the beach. If conditions are favourable for beach training that's where we'll be.
We establish the groups based on the children and parents who turn up on the day. Children are not necessarily divided by age, rather by skill level, experience, confidence and conditions. It is important to arrive 15 minutes early to allow the organisers time to sort out the groups. Also, if you arrive late for board paddling and we have set off in one group we may already be up the river and your child may not be able to join the group.
Camden Haven SLSC is all about family fun and participation. This is supported by everyone helping out. It is essential for at least one parent or caregiver is registered as a member. Family Membership is recommended to ensure everyone is insured and can use the club’s facilities.
To ensure the safety of all participants, parents or caregivers must remain on location. Accidents, such as bluebottle or jelly fish stings, can and do occur. At these times, parents or caregivers are needed to attend to their child to ensure adequate supervision can continue to be provided for other children.
